We understand that many patients do not want, nor need surgery.  The providers at Modern Urology will approach our patient’s urologic problems with conservative treatment options before recommending surgical procedures, as appropriate.

Modern Urology offers the most advanced evaluation and treatment options.  From using the highest quality diagnostic equipment to offering nitrous oxide for anxious patients, we provide superior urologic care in a relaxed pleasant environment.

Dr. Fronczak performs a NO SCALPEL, NO NEEDLE VASECTOMY in her office using a specialised technique that, according to the American Urological Association, has the lowest failure rate.

A vasectomy is a reliable and highly effective option for family planning.

For men who have decided not to have children or do not wish to expand their families, a vasectomy in Lakewood, CO offers a permanent birth control solution with a success rate exceeding 99%. It is also a safer and more cost-effective alternative to female tubal ligation.

Undergoing a vasectomy will not alter sexual function, including libido, erections, the experience of intercourse, or the amount of ejaculate.

At Modern Urology Colorado, Dr. Fronczak employs a “Triple Hit” technique on each vas deferens (men have two—one for each testicle).

This “Triple Hit” approach involves snipping, blocking, and burying. She will discuss this method in detail during your consultation.

Local anaesthesia is highly effective for this procedure, though nitrous oxide is also available for additional comfort. If you’re considering a vasectomy in Lakewood, CO, this approach ensures a safe, efficient procedure with minimal discomfort.

No prep is needed and shaving is not recommended (shaving increases risk of infection by putting tiny often not visible cuts into the skin, increasing bacterial invasion into theses tiny cuts).

  • No specific preparation is required, and shaving is not advised. Shaving can create tiny, often invisible cuts in the skin, increasing the risk of infection by allowing bacteria to enter these micro-abrasions.

Avoid blood thinners for seven days before your procedure – refer to our page on anticoagulation and antiplatelets for more details.

    • If you are taking a prescribed blood thinner or aspirin, consult Dr. Fronczak before your vasectomy.
    • Refrain from blood-thinning supplements for seven days leading up to your procedure. These include:
      • Aspirin
      • Ibuprofen
      • Fish oil
      • Turmeric
      • Garlic
  • The vasectomy is a quick procedure, taking 30 minutes or less and performed right in our office.
  • You will be positioned on your back with your legs straight.
  • Your scrotal area will be cleaned with betadine or an alternative solution if you have an allergy to betadine.
  • Each vas deferens is located, and a numbing agent (lidocaine) is administered to the skin over the vas using a specialised device, eliminating the need for a traditional needle injection.
  • A small opening is made in the skin, exposing each vas deferens. A section of each vas is removed, the ends are sealed with cautery, and they are positioned separately within the surrounding tissue.
  • These steps are crucial to ensure the lowest possible risk of vasectomy failure.
  • The skin opening will heal naturally—stitches are not necessary.

Post vasectomy instructions

  • Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, intercourse, or masturbation for seven days following your procedure.
  • Walking is permitted and encouraged.
  • Use scrotal support and apply ice packs to the area as needed (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) for the first 48 hours to ease discomfort.
  • Tylenol or ibuprofen can be taken as needed for pain relief.
  • After seven days, you may resume sexual activity, but continue using birth control until your post-vasectomy semen analysis confirms sterility.

Post vasectomy semen sample

  • You will need to provide a semen sample only after completing at least 25 ejaculations over a 90-day period.
  • Do not attempt to rush through 25 ejaculations within a short time frame, as this may lead to complications such as:
    • Pain
    • Blood in the ejaculate
    • Possible vasectomy failure
  • The reason for requiring multiple ejaculations is that millions of sperm are stored in the seminal vesicles—a reservoir that lies beyond the vasectomy site. These vesicles need to be thoroughly cleared before testing.
  • A full 90 days is necessary to ensure that all remaining sperm are non-viable, as sperm can survive in the seminal vesicles for up to three months.
  • A vasectomy is considered successful when the post-vasectomy semen analysis shows either no sperm or fewer than 100,000 non-motile sperm. For reference, a man typically ejaculates around 100 million sperm at a time.
