“The Safe, Simple, Permanent Solution for Family Planning. Trusted by Thousands of Colorado Men.”

What is a Vasectomy?

Vasectomy is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that provides permanent birth control for men. At Modern Urology, Dr. Carolyn Fronczak uses a no-scalpel, no-needle technique to ensure your comfort, safety, and fast recovery. Vasectomy is over 99 percent effective and does not affect sexual performance or hormone levels.

Why It’s a Preferred Solution:

  • Quick, in-office procedure usually completed in less than 30 minutes

  • No scalpel or needles are used for anesthesia or access

  • Virtually painless with minimal discomfort and fast recovery

  • No need for shaving or complicated prep

  • Does not impact erections, libido, or sexual sensation

Who is a Candidate for Vasectomy?

If you are a man who does not want children in the future or wants a reliable and permanent form of birth control, vasectomy may be right for you. Vasectomy is suitable for men who are ready for a long-term solution and want the peace of mind that comes with a permanent option.

Vasectomy is ideal for:

  • Men who are finished having children or do not wish to have children

  • Those looking for a cost-effective, permanent birth control method

  • Men who want a procedure that does not affect sexual performance

  • Patients who want to avoid the risks and costs of female sterilization

See the Benefits of Our “Triple Hit” Technique

Dr. Fronczak uses a refined approach to vasectomy, performing a “Triple Hit” to each vas deferens: snip, block, and bury. This technique gives you the highest level of reliability and peace of mind.

The entire process uses local anesthesia delivered with a special device, so there are no needles or scalpels. Nitrous oxide is also available for your comfort. After your appointment, you can walk out and return to normal activities quickly.

“Nitrous oxide is a safe, fast-acting sedative gas that helps you feel relaxed and calm during your vasectomy. You are awake, able to talk, and remain in control, but you’ll feel much less anxious and less discomfort. The effects wear off within minutes, and you can drive yourself home right after the procedure. Most patients find breathing nitrous oxide gas makes the whole experience much easier and more comfortable, without side effects.”

Preparation and Recovery

  • No special preparation is needed before your appointment.

  • Shaving is not recommended. Shaving can cause tiny cuts that may increase the risk of infection.

  • Avoid blood thinners for at least 7 days before your procedure. This includes:

    • Aspirin

    • Ibuprofen

    • Fish oil

    • Turmeric

    • Garlic

  • If you are taking prescription blood thinners or aspirin, please discuss this with Dr. Fronczak before your procedure.

  • If you have questions about any supplements or medications, call our office for guidance.

  • The procedure usually takes 30 minutes or less.

  • You will lie on your back with your legs straight.

  • The area will be cleaned with a sterile solution. If you are allergic to betadine, please let us know so we can use an alternative.

  • Dr. Fronczak will locate each vas deferens.

  • Local anesthesia will be given using a special device, so no needles are needed.

  • A small opening is made in the skin.

  • A segment of each vas deferens is removed.

  • The ends are sealed and separated using a specialized technique to reduce the risk of failure.

  • No stitches are needed. The small opening will heal naturally.

After Your Vasectomy

  • For the first 7 days:

    • Avoid strenuous activity

    • Do not lift heavy objects

    • Avoid intercourse and masturbation

  • Walking is allowed and encouraged.

  • Wear supportive underwear for comfort.

  • Apply ice to the area for 20 minutes at a time, then take a 20-minute break. Do this as needed for the first 48 hours.

  • You can take Tylenol or ibuprofen if you feel discomfort.

  • After 7 days, you may resume sexual activity, but continue using other birth control methods until your semen sample is cleared.

Post-Vasectomy Semen Sample

  • You will need to provide a semen sample after you have ejaculated at least 25 times over a 90-day period.

  • Do not attempt all ejaculations in a short time. Rushing this process can cause pain, bloody ejaculate, or even risk the success of the vasectomy.

  • The waiting period allows stored sperm to clear from your system, as sperm can survive in the seminal vesicles for up to 90 days.

  • The vasectomy is considered successful only after your semen sample shows no living sperm or fewer than 100,000 dead sperm.
